What are the pros and cons of studying architecture in L.A.?
I've always admired this profession, but I don't want to be a common architect, I want to make big things, like fancy homes, big buildings, etc and become a recognized architect, that's why I decided to move to L.A. to study architecture at UCLA. So what do you think are the pros and cons about being an architect in such a big city? Do you think I have a shot in the field to be recognized by my designs, and at one point, earn a lot of money?

- I don't think it matters which architectural college you attend; it's innovation and determination that gets you ahead. I've known plenty of graduates from SLO that have done great things.
- Living in a metropolitan will have more opportunities and also give you a broader life experience. Going to a reputable school is the first step towards the profession but will not guarantee success. If education is the primary source of "teaching" talent, then all the great architects will only come from a certain school. No one can tell you whether you will be successful or not, it's up to you to put yourself in a position to have a shot. Unfortunately, even with hard work, success is not guaranteed. Every student enters architecture school wanting to "make big things, like fancy homes, big buildings, etc and become a recognized architect.", but only a few even make it as a designer for a firm and many many more fail to reached being acclaimed. But even without being an acclaimed architect, you still have a chance to make decent money, but rarely be rich. The even more difficult part is the low salary you will have to endure the first 7 or so years after graduating school, even if you get a M.Arch from UCLA. A Master is not worth anymore than a 5 year B.Arch in the industry.
