Architect and Interior Design?

I'm 15 and I was thinking about becoming an architect because I like interior design so much. The reason I would even want to become an architect if I like interior design is simply because I would want to design the structure as well as the inside design of the interior of the structure (this is a must). I am 100% certain this is the profession I want to pursue. The problem is I'm not good at math for the architecture side of it, and I don't have the money to afford a big university. So, sense I'm only 15 I think it would be a good idea to start "becoming" an architect now. So my question is can anyone tell me what kind of knowledge an architect is expected to know? BTW: I'm homeschooled which is very flexible, and I want to start studying to become an architecture now. So PLEASE if you know any books I can buy at a Barns and Noble that would help me, that would be excellent!! Also, if you know any books on modern interior design and architecture, that would also be excellent! Thanks you!

  1. gotta be great at doing math
  2. I recommend shadowing an architect for a bit. You may want to look into interior architecture, which is halfway in between interior design and architecture. Computer skills are crucial to the field right now. You could start by downloading and playing around with trial versions of AutoCAD, Revit, 3ds Max, Photoshop, and Illustrator. Check out Frank Ching's Architectural Graphics for tips on drafting. It's also important to understand construction at various levels, through materials used to create actual buildings (concrete, glass, wood, etc.) as well as miniature models of buildings (cardboard, chipboard, plastic, etc.). Good luck, and props to your ambition.
