Where is an interesting place/museum/monument to go in London for a non-traditional tourist?

I will be laid over in London for 10 hours on a Friday morning in July and would like to avoid the crowds. What is something quirky/ interesting/ fun/ off-the beaten path that would be well worth my short visit in the city. I don't want to spend time waiting in lines. For a person that likes Art Galleries Music Gardens historic architecture good Asian food, or any good food :)

  1. The British Museum.
  2. The View. Overlooking the meadows from Richmond Hill, London, SW London. Cows, and other beasts. Ricardo in Philly.
  3. Buy Time Out listings magazine and have a look through that. Try the British Museum in Bloomsbury or the Victoria & Albert Museum in Kensington for art and antiquities. For food, head to Gerrard Street in the west end, that is Chinatown where superb food is the order of the day.
  4. John Soane's Museum, http://www.soane.org/ Somerset House http://www.somersethouse.org.uk/
  5. Dennis Severs House http://www.dennissevershouse.co.uk/ but unfortunatey they are only open Sundays and Mondays if you are in town over the weekend London Walks are always good http://www.walks.com/ I've probaby been on 6 or 7 different walks with visitors and the guides are fantastic They will have a new summer schedule available on 23 April so check back
  6. If you like Asian food you could (assuming its Heathrow Airport you are landing at), take a 105 bus from the central bus station to the Southall area which is London's largest Asian area and is full of excellent Asian restaurants. Kew Gardens, the Royal Botanic Gardens Kew www.kew.org would also be an excellent place to visit
