Difference: Architect and Landscape Architect?

What's the difference? Is Architecture just one big tree and Landscape Architect is just a branch of it? What's the difference between getting a degree in Landscape Arch. or getting a degree in Architecture? Can you have a degree in Architecture but work as a Landscape Arch? Thanks! :) I am planning to pursue a career in Landscape Architect, and just curious what's the difference between having a bachelor or a master degree? Because some of the colleges I checked only offer Bachelor degrees in Landscape.

  1. architect - someone who creates plans to be used in making something (such as buildings) landscape architect - someone who arranges features of the landscape or garden attractively
  2. Landscape architect is a different branch...its more the outside aspect of it....like backyards, gardens, parks, it's the outside portion. Architects are more into buildings and the inside. They are each their separate degree.
  3. These are completely separate entities. Each has its own license so you can not work as a Landscape architect with a degree in architecture. Architects design structures with knowledge of land, drainage, sun, wind shear, human factors, structural elements, building material etc. Landscape architects design spaces (often with building placement but not the building) with knowledge of soils, winds, human factors, planting materials, human usage such as BBQs, pools, water features, walls, grading, pergolas, outdoor materials, conservation, land useage, etc. It is a 3 year + certificate or a degree program. UCLA has one in its extension program if you wish to see the courses. THey are both really rigorous courses.
