What are the best schools in France, both generally and for Architecture?

The traditionally most prestigious school in France for architecture is L'Ecole Nationale Superieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris. I am not aware of its current artistic orientation. It may be too traditional and not contemporary enough for your tastes. You will need to speak and write fluent French. There is a link to the school's official website in the External Links section at the end of the Wikipedia article: Ecole des Beaux-Arts. The most prestigious universities in France are the so-called Grandes Ecoles. See the separate Wikipedia article under that name for a brief description. I believe that admission to them is limited to French citizens, but I am not sure. The Ecole des Beaux arts has accepted US students in the past and I have no reason to believe that it has stopped accepting them.
