How is New York City a beautiful city?

What makes it beautiful? I don't low. Are there many trees? Haha. Do people just like cities with hundreds of huge buildings? The buildings look plain to me. Maybe it's just me. I really fancy South East Asian architecture and European as well. Why are modern buildings so ugly. Why can't they build nice ones? From Canada btw! Yes. I don't low means I don't have the answer for it. I'm not hating. I'm just wondering why people think beautiful cities are just cities with a bunch of buildings

NYC is all about the electrical pulse of pure, unadulterated surge of energy. In other words, beauty is power.
It's true that SOME parts of NYC could look a little ugly and old, but its one of the most amazing cities in the world. there's just so much stuff to do and a lot of history behind it. there is places like central park that are very "green" areas. And also there are many different people that live there, so it's a very big diversity. and at night time the whole city lights up and you can hear music from all over. and there's also a lot of famous people in the city. also great shopping too :) But this is just my opinion and everybody is entitled to their own opinion.
There's a saying, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
It doesn't seem to me that you've ever visited NYC. Or if you have, your experience is very limited. NYC probably has the widest array of architectural styles in the world, not to mention a huge number of city parks with trees, flowers, fountains, etc. One question, you say you like SE Asian architecture, but do you don't like 'ugly' modern buildings? Do you realize that most SE Asian cities such as Singapore, Hong Kong, Shanghai, etc, are full of recently built, modern buildings? Now, you could always say you prefer places like Phnom Penh, Jakarta, etc, but those 3rd world places are among the dirtiest and poorest cities in the world. I don't get your taste man.
Have you HEARD of central park?!? The natural paradise in the middle of the concrete jungle?! Come on!! They have strawberry fields and the pond and bethesda terrace...new york is where it's at :)
Lots of the older buildings in NYC are based off europian architecture and lots of apartments, townhouses, stores, high rises, and the occasional mansion were all built in the guilded age where architecture was grand and overdone. Other parts of NYC like times square have so much technology and so much color and movement there beautiful in a more modern way. And there are other buildings esspecially along central park that are really ugly and should never of been built. In those cases they should of just left all the old mansions alone. Same thing with downtown. All those really tall skyscrapers and really narrow streets dont work well toghether, at least in my opionon. They should of renovated all the old buildings instead of razing them for new ugly ones.
