Does anyone still apreciate historical/ancient architecture?

I have always loved architecture, specifically old and historical buildings/palaces/churches/homes. Sure, the contemporary homes are nice, but its not what I'd prefer. I want to be an architect. I was wondering if others appreciate historical monuments/architecture as much as I do? I recently learned that aparantly London will be tearing down some of its historical buildings to build more modern/contemporary buildings. I was shocked, London is such a beautiful city I cant stand to see its old charm dissapear.

  1. i think most people do prefer older architecture styles. modernism is getting old now, its over 100 years old depending on where you start it. the reason in my mind for its long standing success is because its cheeper to build in the modernist style.
