plants for architecture mini model?

My girl want to make some bamboo trees for her mini villa model, it's a project for her architecture class the size of the bamboo trees is 1/100 compare to the real bamboo I know how to make the bamboo, by using plastic sticks, then paint them green, but the problem is I don't know how to make the leaves, and how to stick the leaves onto the bamboo. Could anyone have any suggestion ?

  1. That is such a tiny scale that you can't consider making leaves - a 2" leaf would be 0.02" long in scale - what you are going to have to do is suggest the feathery-ness of a grouping of bamboo by using thread stiffened with paint or glue. Perhaps the flatness of unwaxed dental floss might suggest something
  2. It's going to be a hell of a lot of work and I doubt she will get a lot of extra credit for it. Why not do it like a lot of architectural models deal with people. Made 2d cutouts models of bamboo. Find a suitable image, print it out (if you want you can also mirror it so you can stick it on front and back) and glue on cardboard piece and arrange so that it looks good from the main direction the model is supposed to be viewed from. Alternatively go to a store for train models and see whether they have anything suitable, e.g. http://www.virtualvillage.com/100x-model-bamboo-canes-railway-scene-set-light-green-n-003550-015.html or get at least inspiration of how they made theirs.
