- From the intersection at 71st and Greenlake Drive N (the main commercial district next to Greenlake) to Gould Hall is 2.2 miles, mostly flat and downhill towards school. Plan on 30-40 minutes walking. Greenlake is an area of high demand - everyone wants to live there. Most of the apartments will be newer, though there are also basement apartments in the houses near the lake. This isn't going to be the cheapest place in town to live.
- On foot...It will take more like a couple of hours (2 max) depending on where in Greenlake not 40 minutes as the other person posted! However the bus line is convenient and you could commute super fast. As for an apartment, Greenlake is expensive. If you are talking right on Greenlake I would say that for a 1 bedroom it would be around 900 if not more since it is a nicer area thus paying for location. If you go a little off Greenlake say possibly Ravenna area or Roosevelt then you could find a place that would be slightly cheaper.
- 30-40 minutes would be enough time if you were starting from the southeast part of Green Lake. It really does depend on where in the Green Lake area you start your trip. I recommend going to Google Maps and clicking on directions. There you can input your precise starting and ending addresses and/or intersections. Next you would click on the image logo of the person for walking times (which you can vary with your walking speed). That will give you a fairly good estimate. As you may know, there are two buildings where most architecture classes take place on the UW campus- Gould Hall and Architecture Hall. They are both near each other. The main intersection near both is 15th Ave NE and NE 40th.
