Is a masters in landscape architecture worth it?
I graduated with my bachelors degree in landscape architecture in May. I have had no luck so far with my job search. I am considering going for my masters degree next fall since it is still early enough to apply. However, the school I really want to go to does not offer scholarships/grants to grad students. Also, any federal aid would be in the form of loans. I would need 44 total credits for the masters totaling around $33,000. I just paid off all of my undergraduate loans so I will not be going into it with any debt. What I am hoping is that by the time I am done there will be more jobs than now & my masters will put me at an advantage over those graduating with their bachelors at the same time. Does this sound like it would be worth it? I really want to stay involved with the field as opposed to working unrelated jobs then having recent grads be selected for work when it does come.

- It depends what your career prospects in the field are.
- If you are not finding any work at the moment but want to stay in the field, then I would pursue your masters. Since in the end like you say you are more likely to find a job and you cannot become a qualified architect without completing your masters degree. Good luck.
- in my opinion start trying to get into that university that you want to go in. also look for a job that relates to architect. like land scaping, cutting grass, like stuff like that. it would teach you some of the basics on how to keep the yard green. or maybe help out at a Flower shop and learn more about flowers and where they bloom well. things like that. this would help you for you money situation. and on the future career your getting into.ex. your working at a site in arizona (ur a landscape architecture) and you see that the guy cutting the grass is cutting it to low(if to low you have risk of having dead grass spots in the lawn(also short grass means it would be hard for the grass to grow because it will need more water that before and it could easily die by being burnt by the sun since your in arizona it would be more likely)its best to have the right length. anyways so then that would help you not to throw away your money on the grass. another ex. when your done working in the flower shop you have had a experience with dealing with flowers and where there more suited..so when your in arizona you want to put some plants fit for the temp. so for example you pick cacti and some other plant that would withstand its surroundings....get what i mean so in your free time its a good idea to start gain experience while working on your goal to the university that you want.GOOD LUCK!!!!
