Landscape Architect??...................?

Okay, so I'm currently in college right now, and am deciding on career paths.. I'm kinda considering a degree in landscape architect but I'm not too sure. Do landscape architects have to do a lot of math? Is the job outlook good for a landscape architect? What exactly does a landscape architect do on a daily basis? How hard is it to land a job with a landscaping architecture frim? Any other info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!!!

  1. i was in lar, but switched my major to horticulture yes, lots of math outlook is good drawing and lettering-desk work = that's why i switched, plus i'm a plantsman not hard and the pay is good lar is a 5 year program at uga
  2. Check your heart... if you love creativity and designing with plants, do not settle for less than the Landscape Architecture degree. And do not stop at that. Go on and take your boards to get your certification as a Landscape Architect. It is really sad how many LA graduates do not ever bother to get certified! If you just love plants and the beauty that can be enjoyed through them, or if you really love growing plants or maintaining landscapes, then get your Horticulture degree instead. Most Horticulturists have forgotten more information about plants and their care than most LA's ever know. If you are just looking for a career that makes good money, but have no particularly overwhelming attachment to outdoor design or plants, get your degree in something else. Without "The Love" of the business, no type of landscape work is worth the money you can make at it. The pay is not really great, and, when there is a recession, and people are cutting expenditures, landscape spending is the first item to be slashed out of peoples' budgets. It is not a neccesity, and most middle class people do their landscaping themselves, instead of hiring a propfessional. Sell to the Classes, live with the Masses, as the old saying goes.
