- Most of the models I've seen from designers have been out of paper, foam, and fabric. If you can find modeling foam, that's really great to work with. Just take an exacto knife and some heavy duty glue and have at it.
- It depends on what you want to use it for and in what scale you need it to be. More info needed for a specific answer. That said, pick up some dowel rods to cut up for columns and some square balsa or bass wood for other things. You can use foam core for architecture as well. If you peel one side of the paper off, you can even carve the foam to look old. For a more uniform smooth look when finished, paint it over with gesso, sand it and then paint with acrylic paint. Find a picture of what you want to do, figure out what size you want to create it in. Make a list of all of the elements and some ideas of what you think you might need. Then take the list to Michael's and have fun looking around for your supplies. You'll probably find inspiration for your model all over the store. Good Luck!
