  1. You don't really need mathematics to be an architect - you just need to be good at designing buildings (inside and out). An approach to problem solving is far more relevant. At college you may have to design a beam but in real life you would refer any calculations to a structural engineer. Architects can often do both interior design and architecture, wheras Interior designers can only do interiors (but may also do graphics, furniture and fittings etc). In the UK the term architect is restricted and can only legally be used by Architects who are registered (there are dispensations for naval architects and landscape architects - but not interior architects). Architects training is long (7 years) and Interiors is less so salaries reflect this. It is not that well paid a profession nowadays thanks to the interference of one Sally Openheimer who outlawed fixed fee scales - but as there can be more job satisfaction than being a bean counter, there are some compensations. You would do well to visit an architects office in your area - or try a bit of work experience it will give you a good idea of what it is all about.
