Trivial question about OBL's house?
Until now I've never paid much attention to modern architecture in the Middle East. (EVERYONE''S house over there looks like a military bunker as far as I'm concerned.) But what are those dozen or so poles or pipes running up the sides of OBL's "mansion" and sticking through the roof? Plumbing vents? Lightning rods? I know this is completely beside the point, but my curiosity is bugging me, and I thought someone might actually know. (I thought about posting this in Home And Garden, but... I dunno.... I think I'll go with Seniors.)

- I'm thinking they could be something like a satellite thingy. Maybe their way of getting power though something..=)
- Rat entry/escape pipes ? But to correct your geography (no offence meant) the Binliner's lair - close to a pakistani military centre - lies in asia - not in the middle east. : ((
- Perhaps conduits for electrical wires. Some of them may be to drain water from the terrace after a rain or when it's cleaned.
- probably plumbing vents. Or it appears very thick int the photos - it may actually be the external support struts for upper levels. I have seen that multi store homes in the middle east with rebar extended above upper floors for future additions. Many of their "mansions" are consant works in rpgress for the next addition to include the room & spaces for when the young sons become of age & may take wives. It is not unusual through out the mideast.
- I was thinking the same thing about it looking like a bunker. A friend agreed and it brought to mind Hitler's bunker and how his life ended. It looks like a million dollars does not go very far, unless most of it was spent on all the odd pipes, etc. This place will not be featured in House Beautiful any time soon.
- Architecture there seems as you describe! What surprised me is the inside. This is a home? Nothing there seems to speak of peace and serenity for the people within!
