should become a graphic designer if I'm not into modern art very much?
I am in the 12th grade and I have to make up my mind where to apply. I really dislike super-simplist design when it comes to architecture as well. I like the Victorian era, baroque because of it's detail . Would people appreciate being different from all the graphics designers or not? Because I see they are looking for modern logos, designs. Anything simple. Please do not answer If you don't know what I'm talking about or if you don't have experience in the domain.

- Liking or not liking modern art is not a requirement to be a graphic designer. But since graphic design is commercial art. You need to work for the client's wants or your bosses's wants. But there are clients who appreciate what you like. You have to be flexible.
- Wow, what an interesting question. Clearly there IS hope for younger generations. I do not like modern art either, I love Baroque and am really not impressed with the current trend of hyper simplicity. And in all honesty it caused me a lot of trouble in school. All of the teachers wanted the same schlock from everyone, and when I tried to do something different, something classic with my own spin on it...I was given very poor grades. Eventually I dropped out without finishing my degree but somehow managed to land a great job anyway. If you're willing to fight an uphill battle go for it! The world needs more people willing to make something good instead of something "unique" "Ooooh I''ve done something unique" yeah ok maybe it doesn't look like other stuff, but that's because it looks like crap. If you can do something well you will find work, but I may not be easy. And if you are thinking of getting a degree, research some schools that aren't only into the modern. Being the only classicist in a sea of modernists who think a black painting with a red square in the middle is art is no fun.
- I agree with both of these designers. You don't have to like a specific art style (or hate a specific art style) to become a graphic designer. I also believe that you may change your mind about your preferences. I used to hate the 'retro' look, but now it's growing on me. I've even put this style in my designs myself. It's also true that regardless of the styles that you like or dislike, you may have to work with it anyway because your client needs you to. While you are encouraged to have standards as an artist, you may be obligated to give in. Who knows maybe modern art will grow on you. :) Good luck!
- Dosent matter! Graphic design is such huge Profession if you not like modern art then no matter! Different people need differents graphic designs stuff, some wants modern or some not, so you still could be a Graphic designer! just need to make you yourself good Graphic designer!
