  1. Light --"Unlike Romanesque architecture, with its stress on heavy masses and clearly delimited areas, Gothic construction, particularly in its later phase, is characterized by lightness and soaring spaces...The spiritual and mysterious quality of light is an important element of the religious symbolism of Gothic cathedrals" http://www.infoplease.com/ce6/ent/A0858436.html Circles (used a lot in the Rose window) -- The circle is considered a symbol of unity...It is also the symbol of infinity, without beginning or end, perfect, the ultimate geometric symbol. Its a symbol of democracy and the preferred shape for an assembly of equals; the council circle, the campfire circle, and King Arthur's round table. The circle is also the easiest geometric figure to draw accurately, with stick and string or forked stick. http://www.dartmouth.edu/~matc/math5.geometry/unit9/unit9.html Quatrefoil --"Ubiquitous in Gothic architecture, the quatrefoil symbolizes the four evangelists, as do the Winged Man (Matthew), Lion (Mark), Ox (Luke), and Eagle (John) -- the four beasts of Ezeckiel and the Apocalypse." http://www.fisheaters.com/symbols.html
