Why is the Cologne Cathedral in Cologne Germany considered Gothic architecture?

I have read the Wiki about it and it just doesn't seem to provide me with enough information that helps me understand it completely. I would really appreciate it if someone would help me out. Thanks.

  1. The pointed arches (which are clearly observed on the Cologne Cathedral) are the most defining characteristics of Gothic Architecture besides the time period. I provided a link though which defines Gothic Architecture and lists all the characteristics.
