Is USA or Australia a better place to live for an Asian Indian?
I have lived in Houston for the last 11 years and considering moving to Sydney now. While Houston is a great city commercially and has a strong economy it bores me to death with not too many things to do or sports that I like. I have been considering moving to Sydney, Australia for the following reasons: -Sports: I'm passionate about Cricket and nobody knows what cricket is in America besides the Asian immigrants. I love the sport to death and crave watching a live match;that will never happen living in America since it is a Superbowl Nation. On the other hand, Australia has a history in the sport. -Music: I'm into Euro Dance/House/Electronic music while all they play on American radio is (C) RAP and R&B. I've heard from friends that House/Electronic music is more popular in Australia -Architecture: I'm a lover of contemporary architecture, and most homes in America are very traditional and follow a cookie-cutter design unless you a built a custom home (which can be very expensive). Australian homes builders on the other hand build homes that are more modern and stylish comparably. -Vacation Time: While America most companies will only offer you a 10-12 days of vacation time, its about 30 days in Australia -Health Benefits: You are screwed if you a loose your job in America and get sick. The medical bills will kill your bank balance if you have any. Australia on the other hand has a govt sponsored health care system for everybody. -Beaches: Houston has a crappy beach in Galveston while Sydney is a hub of beautiful beaches Also, I have a degree in Finance with 5 years of experience and looks like Sydney offers plenty of opportunities in the Accounting/Finance industry. What are opinions or suggestions about life in both countries? Would Los Angeles be a better place to move compared to Sydney? Educated answers please.

- GG, as for cricket, a contributor on here known as Bingalee will love you, the woman is possessed about the sport, I think she lives the sport to the max, but she is a great contributor. You don`t have to tell me about the States, I live north of you above the 49th. I have worked and lived in Sydney, and you will love the beaches over there, specially where I had my apartment at Dee Why. Lets get down to the business end of the equation, does your profession meet the Australian Immigration Skills list, contact the Australian Embassy in DC, and get all the information direct from them.
- I live in Australia, and it is very nice. All the points you listed are good. I would suggest moving here!
- You need to be a citizen to get free health care in Australia so you need to sort that out first. As for finding work in your industry you will have no problems in Sydney. Of course you need to get a job before you move here otherwise you will have problems with immigration. Music in Sydney will be the same as in Houston. Plenty of cricket lovers here... Very laid back, not many people complain about living in Australia.
- I guess you haven't been in touch with Australian media recently, there are a lot of stabbing of Indians in Australia, they are not very welcomed.
- As long as you barrack for Australia in the cricket don't bother...lol Music, there is such a thing as internet radio. and I don't understand you at all. I go online to the american radio stations and they always play the top 40 countdown. Architecture. You have just stayed in Houston it seems. There is amazing architecture in Arizona to name one of 50 areas to visit. And as it is smaller than Australia you should have had lots of road trips. Dont forget over here we travel one to two hours without any hassle and expect to travel by car and plane LOTS. Vacation time for a permanent wage earner is 4 weeks. But if you are a contractor or a salary you will work out your own time. Health Benefits. NOT A HOPE. We get taxed here if we don't have Private Health Insurance and it is about to be means tested. If you come from overseas, it is not free, until you have become a permanent resident and pay taxes every year!!!! All you talk about is Houston, Hasn't it dawned on you to go on holidays like Australians do? People who live in the country bush and have to travel 10 hours to get to a beach only see it once a year and do it without whinging the travel time. You could travel a bit more instead of whinging and whining about how boring you are. If you are bored with where you are, only you are the common denominator to where ever you move.
