where is the nicest/richest residential area of Montreal-Canada?
I am travelling to Montreal and wanted to bike through some nice neighbourhoods to see fine architecture/gardens.

- The nicer it is, the harder to bike. Upper Westmount gets my vote.
- Westmount - quite a climb though but worth it. There is a lookout too where you can look out over Montreal
- The most expensive part of town for residential housing is Westmount. It is an area that contains many tailored lawns, old granite buildings, and luxury cars. The area to see would be between Clark and Claremont Avenues, and between St. Catherine Street and Westmount Avenue. There are two nice parks in the area and a bike path along de Maisonneuve takes you right through Westmount Park. Another nice area for biking is in Mount Royal Park. The Town of Mount Royal (TMR) is home to wealthy residents as well, and may have some nice homes, although the architecture is not nearly as impressive as Westmount. However, they do have the beautiful gardens in the park, the ponds, the bike paths, and even a trip through Mount Royal Cemetery. Montreal is very bike-friendly and we have miles of bike paths, but there are some streets near the areas I mentioned that I would suggest avoiding due to the high volume of traffic: - Sherbrooke Street is a nightmare for bikers as you have to dodge car doors opening, cars cutting you off, and a general rush atmosphere. - Dorchester/Rene-Levesque laso has too much car trafiic and taxis weaving in and out for fares to be really safe. - St. Catherine Street east of Atwater should be avoided.
