Is the Getty Villa in Malibu a good place to go for a date?

I've been to the Getty Center a couple of times and mostly for school projects, but I really did enjoy everything I saw there. I heard about the Getty Villa that recently opened in Malibu and it is supposed to be Roman inspired.....I'm thinking of date ideas and was wondering if the Getty Villa would be a romatic and thoughtful place to go....we are both pretty "artsie" and appreciate art/nature/architecture....I've nevr been to the Villa before....is it like I imagine? Art/beautiful gardens/beautiful architecture/and a fun time?

  1. yes, yes, and yes! Go!
  2. If you like architecture, ancient roman and etruscan art and sculpture, a beautiful ocean view and gardens, then yes, you will have a great date! Avoid Gladstone's for Fish on PCH and Sunset!
  3. It is in a very pretty setting, especially if it is a clear day. You better like Greek/Roman/Etruscan art because that is all that is represented at that museum. They have some nice fountains and gardens which are great to take pictures of. I made reservations for the villa at 10am and it was pretty empty. When we left a little after noon it was starting to get crowded. That was when the Villa reopened over a year ago. I'm not sure what the crowds are like now.
  4. If your date is interested in this sort of outing, then, by all means go. There is a nice cafe there, the exhibits are fantastic, the whole place has been rennovated to the extent of looking like a Roman villa. You should have a great time.
  5. If you don't want to drive all the way up to San Simeon to see Hearst Castle, then Getty Villa is the place to see Greek, Roman, and Etruscan art. Good choice!
  6. I think so. The area is gorgeous, the admission is free (but you have to reserve ahead of time) and the villa is amazing. If you both appreciate art, nature and architecture, you should LOVE it. Parking is pretty cheap compared to other dates you could go on. The villa has a lot of ancient statues, frescoes, pottery, jewelry, paintings and more. There are some peaceful water features, including the very long pool in the courtyard. There is a lovely herb garden and plenty of plants and flowers. The view of the Pacific is gorgeous and the building itself is lovely. I had a wonderful time. If you go on a perfect day- sunny not too warm, not too cold, it is very inspiring, enlivening and romantic. I left in a great, cheerful mood!
  7. Yes, it's really cool. Especially if you like mosaic stuff. I enjoyed it even though we dragged along my friends 2 kids (ages 6 & 9). they both really liked the fountains areas & outdoor gardens..
  8. Yes, very pretty. The Getty in Brentwood (up in the hills) is great for dates too.
  9. Villa is a cool place I was there recently. Admission is free but it books up in advance fast sometimes...parking is $8 I think. It's cool to just walk around, or you can join a tour for free as well, they are on the half an hour or hour I think. enjoy!
