- What do you mean by HT? I studied Architecture and art history and am not familiar with the term. The period of "modern architecture" begins in the 19th century with the "industrial style" this referred more to the materials used that the visual style. This period is also the begining of the modern sky scrapper due too the invention of curtain wall construction After that the are many movements and styles Arts and crafts Art Nouveau Modernism (bauhaus) Organic International Art Deco Art Moderne Post Modernism Post War pacific (also sometimes called airline) Most of these are dominant styles but many less important are omitted given their lack of innovation. Numerous revival movements have occured over the last 150 years as well
- You have got me, what is HT? All I can tell you simply is the Modern Architecture started in the 20th century, such as the buildings (explained by Rehoboth). The styles modernism evolved during the 20th cen. starting with 'Art Neauvo which meant 'New Art' even tho it was a bit frilly in its self, it later became streamlined. That led to Art deco which was the modernization (and manufacturing) of the decorative arts. About that time Cranbrook Institute for the Arts opened and the Saarinen's ran that school and brought their Scandinavian influence to the school. Cranbrook is considered the birthplace and or driving force for Modern art and Architecture in America. Much of the coveted furniture designs being sought and/or remanufatured today came from the collaberation of Artists and Architects at Cranbrook. Also at that same time we had Frank Lloyd Wright and his schools, where he had a great influence by his love of all things Japanese. Both the Japanese and the Scandinavian influences brought about the stream lining of American Architecture at about the same time as the art deco movement. At this time homes and buildings began to lose all excess ornamentation. In the 30's stream lined trains and manufacturing were an influence and towards the 50's space and science (splitting the atom) in all things decorative. These things carried over in to the Architectural style of the homes . Some of todays most coveted homes are the ones designed during this time, when they were really pushing the envelope in residential design. Today those funky, space age, jetson and atomic, designs are the coveted prizes from the golden age of Architecture. Motels and Apartments, also were a great canvas for these new designs. Oh and by the way the term "Eames Era" is not a correct term, it insults the other designers of that time, the Eamse's were not the only people designing cool furniture at that time. And last I heard Charles Eames is still alive. That term sort of implies they are gone along with Modern Design, which could not be further from the truth. Iv'e also seen FLW era as well, but the correct is MCM Mid Century Modern, or the Golden Age of Modernism. Hope this helps.
