architecture and interior design?
I'm only a freshman in highschool, but I already know what I want to do in the future. I want to become both an architect and interior designer, but I'm not sure it would work out or not. Will one get in the way of the other? Also, I'm wondering if drawing is a really important part of it because my drawing skills aren't the best, but my math is really good.

- How are your computer skills? I think most architectural work is done in CAD design computer program. Of course, you have to get through school the old fashion way. I'm not sure so much drawing skill is involved in interior design as the ability to see the finished product and being able to convey your ideas to a client. Check to see what kind of classes are available at your school that might give you an idea what you are in for. Your guidance councelor should be able to help you out with that when you sign up for classes this fall. You can also check with a local college guidance councelor & see what they recommend you take for electives in high school to help you with your career goals. My nephew did and he is now a structural engineer for building bridges.
- A lot of practicing architects do interior design as well. Larger firms will generally have seperate departments for architecture and interiors, but at a lot of smaller firms one architect will design a building and then design the interior along with it. Go to school for architecture and pick up some interior design on the side (you can practice interior design with an architecture degree but not the other way around). Drawing actually is a pretty big part of it. Despite CAD and computer renderings, architects do need to be able to produce a quick sketch to communicate their ideas to clients, so that's something to keep in mind, but creativity is really what's important in the field. Good luck!
