interior design vs. architecture?

i m interested in interior design, but will it be better if i major in architecture? whats the difference between a B.Arch and a B. A degree in architecture?? which universities have good undergraduate program in architecture?? UC schools, USC, Parson, Pratt??? please help!!

  1. architecture requires a strong math and engineering background...whereas interior design requires a strong knowledge of the local ikea and back seasons of "queer eye for the straight guy" on dvd...if you are interested in ID then you probably don't have the chops for an architecture program...Georgia Tech, Texas Tech, Virgina Tech...the schools you mentioned, Pratt, Parsons are art schools...
  2. I just finished the Masters of Architecture program at Boston Architecture college. not a bad school, you work while you go to school so it is a lot of work. Interior design is just architecture of interiors. You need just as much math, science and style to do both. A B.arch means it is an accredited program and you will be able to take the registration exam when you finish. A BA degree in architecture means that you will have to complete a masters degree before you can sit for the registration exam. Some states have an interior design registration exam too, so if that is what you are interested in, then you should pursue ID. Good luck. It is a challenging field.
