What is the difference between horticulture majors and landscape architecture majors?

Public Comments

  1. Horticulture is the study of plants; landscape architects focus on design. No reputable landscape architect could do his/her job without a degree in horticulture. -MM
  2. architecture involves construction design... not just landscape layouts. Horticulture also involves botany and the ecology of a designed environment.
  3. Horticulture is just the study of Plants and plant life. Landscaping is more the design of areas that uses plants to enhance it.
  4. Hm Is the science of growing the plants while Lm is the technique of presenting the plants to all who see in an area designed to show off the ambiance of the area with the plants included
  5. Horticulture is the study of plants and how the grow and what kind of soil and etc they need. A landscape architect looks at a building and then draws up a plan as to where to put the plants.
  6. Horticulture would be mostly a science degree versus Landscape Architecture would be more a design major maybe with science to a degree (my guess would be you would have to have horticulture education in order to select what plants would grow best in the space/area that is being designed).
